LG Electronics Powers Expo City Dubai’s Smart Transformation with Major HVAC and AI Hub Deal

In a significant move for the region’s technology landscape, South Korean giant LG Electronics has cemented a strategic partnership to become a key technology provider for Expo City Dubai, marking a major entry into the Middle East’s burgeoning smart-city sector.

The agreement, signed with the Expo City Dubai Authority (ECDA) on November 19, 2025, will see LG supply advanced heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven smart-home solutions. This collaboration aims to transform the 3.5 square kilometre former Expo 2020 site into a model of sustainable, intelligent urban living, eventually hosting an estimated 35,000 residents.

A Dual-Pronged Technological Offering

LG’s contribution to the project is two-fold, targeting both the foundational infrastructure and the in-home experience:

  1. Advanced HVAC Systems: LG will provide high-efficiency climate control systems specifically engineered for the demanding Middle Eastern environment. This infrastructure is crucial for achieving the energy-efficient and carbon-neutral goals outlined in the UAE’s “We the UAE 2031” vision.

  2. AI Home Hub and Smart-Home Solutions: At the core of the resident experience will be LG’s AI home hub platform. This system will allow occupants to control appliances, monitor energy usage, and manage connected services through an intelligent, centralized interface, seamlessly blending comfort with digital innovation.

Strategic Expansion for LG

This deal represents a strategic pivot for LG, expanding its role from a consumer appliance manufacturer to a comprehensive smart-city solutions provider. By engaging in business-to-government (B2G) and large-scale business-to-business (B2B) projects, LG is tapping into a key growth market driven by state-led urban development initiatives.

The partnership builds on LG’s existing presence in the region, which included supplying LED signage and built-in appliances during the original Expo 2020. This new agreement signifies a deeper, more integrated role, moving from providing products to delivering the very technological backbone of a future city.

Driving Sustainable Urban Development

The collaboration underscores several major trends in urban development and corporate strategy:

  • Sustainability Focus: Advanced HVAC and smart-home systems are critical for reducing energy consumption and carbon footprints, aligning perfectly with the UAE’s national sustainability agenda.

  • The Rise of AI and IoT: The project highlights how AI and the Internet of Things (IoT) are becoming standard requirements for next-generation urban infrastructure, creating new frontiers for electronics companies.

  • Competitive Evolution: LG’s move reflects a broader industry shift where traditional appliance makers are evolving into end-to-end solution providers for smart buildings and cities.

A Look Ahead

LG CEO Cho Joo-wan emphasized that the company’s differentiated technologies are poised to support the UAE’s long-term infrastructure and energy-efficiency ambitions. For Expo City Dubai, partnering with a global tech leader like LG provides access to proven, scalable technology that can be integrated across residential, commercial, and governmental segments.

In summary, this landmark contract signals a new chapter for urban development in the region. It demonstrates that the future of cities lies not just in constructing buildings, but in embedding intelligent, connected, and sustainable systems directly into the urban fabric, with global tech players like LG at the forefront.
