Dubai Launches ‘Gold District’ with World’s First ‘Gold Street’ as Its Centerpiece

Dubai has unveiled its most ambitious luxury project to date: the Dubai Gold District, a purpose-built destination designed to be the global epicenter for the gold and jewelry trade. The district’s stunning focal point will be the world’s first “Gold Street,” a landmark pathway incorporating real gold elements, symbolizing the emirate’s fusion of heritage, commerce, and ultra-luxury tourism.

Officially launched by Ithra Dubai, the district is branded as the new “Home of Gold.” It aims to consolidate the entire precious metals ecosystem—from bullion trading and investment services to high-end retail and designer showcases—into a single, state-of-the-art hub, streamlining business and attracting a global clientele.

More Than a Spectacle: A Strategic Trade Hub

The Gold Street is far more than a tourist attraction; it is the cornerstone of a strategy to cement the UAE’s dominance in the global gold market. The UAE is already the world’s second-largest physical gold trading hub, with exports worth approximately $53.41 billion in the 2024-25 period. Key partners include Switzerland, the UK, India, Hong Kong, and Türkiye.

By bringing every facet of the industry together, the district provides an unparalleled environment for international traders, investors, and collectors, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a critical node in the global gold supply chain.

A Unified Luxury Destination

The district immediately establishes itself as a premier retail destination, housing over 1,000 retailers. The mix includes global jewelry giants like Jawhara, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Al Romaizan, and Tanishq. In a major vote of confidence, Joyalukkas has announced plans for a 24,000-square-foot flagship store, set to be its largest in the Middle East.

This commercial power is matched by a diverse visitor base. In 2025 alone, the area attracted shoppers from over 147 nationalities, demonstrating its worldwide appeal.

World-Class Infrastructure for a Global Audience

Supporting this vision is robust infrastructure tailored for international visitors and business travelers. Six hotels within and around the district offer more than 1,000 guest rooms. Enhanced accessibility, including dedicated stops on the Big Bus sightseeing tour network, ensures the district is seamlessly integrated into Dubai’s tourism circuit.

Celebrating Heritage, Defining the Future

The Dubai Gold District represents a forward-looking celebration of the emirate’s centuries-old gold trading legacy. Officials describe it as reimagining this heritage for a modern era defined by experiential luxury, sustainability, and global connectivity.

The phased reveal of the Gold Street’s design will sustain global interest, positioning Dubai not just as a marketplace, but as the definitive global destination for gold culture, innovation, and commerce. This project underscores Dubai’s relentless ambition to redefine the frontiers of trade, tourism, and urban experience.
