Dubai Police Urge Vigilance Against Rising Fake Job and Visa Scams
Dubai Police have issued an urgent public warning about a surge in fraudulent job offers and fake visa services circulating on social media. These sophisticated scams are designed to steal money and personal data from unsuspecting residents and job seekers.
How the Scams Work
Fraudsters create convincing fake profiles on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, posing as legitimate recruitment agencies or visa sponsors. They advertise non-existent jobs, “guaranteed” work visas, or domestic help placements, pressuring victims to make upfront payments for processing fees or deposits. Once the money is sent, the scammers vanish. In one case, a victim lost Dh10,000 through a fake domestic worker ad.
Official Warnings and Legal Risks
Authorities stress that the only legal path to employment and visas is through official government channels or agencies licensed by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). Key points:
Employers bear all costs: Under UAE law, job seekers should never pay for visas, work permits, or processing.
Severe consequences: Dealing with unlicensed entities can lead to financial loss, legal penalties, fines, and immigration issues.
Identity theft risk: Sharing personal documents like passport or Emirates ID details can lead to further exploitation.
How to Protect Yourself: 5 Essential Tips
Verify Credentials: Always check the agency’s official MoHRE license before engaging.
Avoid Upfront Payments: Treat any request for deposits or fees as a major red flag.
Use Official Channels: For domestic help, use MoHRE-approved Tadbeer centres. For employment, use only authorized platforms.
Guard Personal Data: Never share sensitive information (passport, Emirates ID, bank details) with unverified contacts.
Report Suspicious Activity: Immediately report scams via the Dubai Police Smart App, the eCrime platform, or by calling 901.

Community Awareness is Key
Dubai Police’s ongoing #BewareOfFraud campaign aims to educate the public. In an era of increasingly sophisticated online fraud, vigilance, verification, and using official channels are the most effective ways to protect yourself from financial and legal harm. Remember: if an offer seems too good to be true, it likely is.
